New website for Sparta (bikes)

The new spartabikes.com has been launched!

Just like raleigh.co.uk and lapierrebikes.com, it's built with the in-house developed platform that we call 'Accession'. That's a fully headless platform which uses Storyblok for (headless) content managent, Shopware for (headless) e-commerce and Algolia for (headless) merchandising. It's using a Jamstack architecture with React and Gatsby.

The content, UX, UI and frontend components (maintained in Storybook and 'tweakable' via design tokens, using Amazon's Style Dictionary) are firmly rooted in the Object-Oriented UX philosophy, which enables us to design at scale, with great speed.

I'm proud of this third baby (the first and second were raleigh.co.uk and lapierrebikes.com) we delivered with the team!

Tim's Content Break: Vodcast on headless and OOUX

During the preparations for the webinar on the topic of headless content management and object-oriented UX that I did with my colleague and 'headless & ooux partner in crime' Rowin Peet, we got talking - nerding away, really - with Tim Hanse on the topic.

Google: debijenkorf.nl ranks 3rd in NL on mobile usability of registration & conversion!

There are those proud moments in the life of a UX-er and this is one of them.

After 2 years of hard research & design work, with a fierce 'mobile first' approach, our new checkout launched by the end of 2017 (more about redesigning the checkout of debijenkorf.nl).

And now Think with Google ranked us 3rd in mobile usability in the Netherlands, with a 'best in class' on registration & conversion!

That is just awesome :-)

Redesigning the checkout @ debijenkorf.nl

It was with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation by the Amsterdam UX meetup group, to tell the story about redesigning the checkout at debijenkorf.nl on October 4th, 2017. And many thanks to Adyen, for hosting the evening.

Telling the story about this 2-year journey, from starting the research to getting the first version live, was great fun and I really enjoyed the discussions during and after the presentation. Thanks all for being there! The slides can be found here.

UX for real-life products: cars

As I wrote earlier, in my post 'What is UX?': UX as a concept is not new. It has been around for years. Maybe not being called 'UX', but the idea is the same. As an example, I use the fact that e.g. BMW works hard on tweaking the sound of the car-doors closing.

And then, today, I ran into this podast-episode by Twenty Thousand Hertz, illustrating just that. Enjoy :-)

What is UX?

There are a lot of definitions of ‘UX’ floating around. Sometimes it seems as if it's some ‘magic stuff’ you sprinkle over a flow or design that will make it user-proof. In some cases it is a synonym for visual-/ graphic-/ user-interface-design. And sometimes there’s no clue. Googling for 'what is ux' will return you about 100.000.000 results. Trying to add something to this topic feels a bit ridiculous. But, hey, here's my 2 cents :-)

(Dutch Alert) WhatsApp, Facebook & Telegram

De recente ophef over de overname van WhatsApp door Facebook: ik krijg er een beetje jeuk van. Waarom?

Los van de discussies over het astronomische bedrag, lees ik dingen als: "I am not handing over my phone number to Facebook to misuse and give out to third parties." Of: "The best new IM. Forget whatsapp, this is the all new multi-platform instant messaging, that's free, forever." En dan komt die jeuk.
